“The Wombat Who Was Afraid of Dirt”
In faraway Australia, there lived a little wombat named Willie. He was the fluffiest, roundest, and… the tidiest creature on the whole continent. But Willie had one big problem: he was terrified of dirt!
“Dirt? Never! ” he told the other animals, hiding his paws behind his back.
One day, his wombat friends invited him to help dig a new tunnel—because all wombats love digging. But as soon as Willie saw his paws sinking into the soft, sticky earth, he let out a tiny squeal and ran away.
“Willie, how can you be a real wombat if you’re afraid of digging? ” the kangaroos teased.
Feeling sad, Willie decided to prove to everyone that he was brave. He went for a walk and met Emma the echidna.
“Hey, Willie, want to help me find some ants? ” Emma asked.
“Uh… is it dirty? ”
“Just a little, ” Emma smiled.
Willie hesitated but decided to try. Together, they started digging. At first, it was scary. But the more he dug, the more he liked how the soft earth tickled his paws. Then—oops! —his nose accidentally touched a clump of dirt, leaving a smudge on his fluffy side.
“Oh no! ” he cried, but then he noticed his wombat friends watching him in awe.
“Willie, you’re our hero! You found treasure! ”
It turned out there was a whole stash of delicious roots underground—the wombats’ favorite treat. Willie not only overcame his fear of dirt but also became a hero.
And the next time his friends invited him to dig tunnels, he said:
“Just bring me more dirt! ”
And that’s how little tidy Willie discovered that sometimes getting messy can be a lot of fun!
