Bloody saw

It was a dark and stormy night. Detective Sarah Miller sat at her desk in the precinct, sipping on a cup of coffee while trying to piece together the latest case. A wealthy businessman had been found dead in his office, and all signs pointed to foul play.  

Sarah had been on the case for weeks, but the clues were few and far between. She had interviewed the victim's colleagues, family members, and friends, but no one seemed to have any motive for murder.  

One night, Sarah was working late in the office when she received an anonymous phone call. A man on the line told her that he had information about the murder. Sarah was skeptical, but decided to meethim in a public place. They agreed to meet at a coffee shop in the center of town the next day.  

As Sarah made her way to the coffee shop, she couldn't help but feel nervous. She had never met someone who claimed to have information about a murder before. What if this man was lying? What if he was dangerous?  

When Sarah arrived, she saw a man sitting at a table near the back of the coffee shop. He looked up as she approached and stood up to greet her.  

"Sarah? " he asked.  

"Yes, " she replied.  

"I'm John, " he said, extending his hand.  

Sarah shook his hand and they both sat down at the table. She studied his face, trying to determine if he was trustworthy.  

"I'm sorry to have been so mysterious on the phone, " John said. "But I didn't want to give away too much information. I think I know who killed that woman last week. "  

Sarah leaned forward, intrigued.  

"Do you have any proof? " she asked.  

"Not yet, " John admitted. "But I have a strong suspicion. You see, I work at the local hardware store. Last week, a man came in asking for a certain type of saw. It's the same type of saw that I think was used to  

commit the murder. He was acting strange and kept looking over his shoulder. I didn't think much of it at the time, but when I heard about the murder, I couldn't shake the feeling that it was him. "  

Sarah listened intently, but she knew that John's suspicion alone was not enough to go off of. She decided to ask him more about the man he saw at the hardware store.  

"Can you describe the man to me? " she asked.  

"He was about six feet tall, had short, dark hair, and was wearing a green hoodie, " John replied.  

Sarah jotted down the description in her notebook. She thanked John for his information and promised to follow up on it.  

As she left the coffee shop, Sarah knew that she had a long way to go before she could catch the killer. But she was determined to leave no stone unturned. She would start by tracking down the man in the green hoodie that John saw at the hardware store. It was a small lead, but it was a start.  

Over the next few days, Sarah spent countless hours going through footage from various CCTV cameras near the hardware store. Finally, she found a video that showed the man in the green hoodie. She watched it over and over again, trying to pick up any clues that could help her identify him.  

Thankfully, Sarah was able to identify the man. His name was Mark Thompson, and he had a criminal record. Sarah knew that she had to tread carefully. She didn't want to spook him and give him an opportunity to run.  

Sarah handed over all the information she had to the police department, who initiated an investigation. While the police were conducting their investigation, Sarah decided to do some investigating of her own. She knew that Mark Thompson was a dangerous man, and she had to be cautious.  

Sarah staked out Thompson's home, and on a few occasions, followed him around town. It wasn't until one night while she was following him that she noticed something unusual. Thompson had met up with another man in a deserted alley. They spoke briefly, and then the other man handed Thompson a package. Sarah couldn't see what was in the package, but she knew it couldn't be anything good.  

Sarah trailed Thompson back to his house and saw him go inside. She knew she had to act quickly before he had a chance to get rid of the package.  

Sarah quickly called the police and reported her findings. They immediately dispatched a team to Thompson's house and surrounded the area.  

Sarah watched from a distance as the police approached the house. She heard them shouting for Thompson to come out with his hands up. After a few moments, Thompson emerged, still clutching the package.  

The police shouted at him to drop the package and get on the ground. Thompson hesitated for a moment, but eventually complied. The police apprehended him and took him into custody.  

When the police searched the package, they found a bloody saw inside. It was the same saw that John had seen Thompson ask for at the hardware store. The police realized that they had their killer.  

At Thompson's trial, he pled guilty to the murder of the woman. Thanks to Sarah's help, the police were able to apprehend and convict him. Sarah was hailed as a hero for her investigative work, which helped to solve the case.  

Sarah continued to work as a journalist, but she felt a newfound appreciation for the work that the police did. She continued to investigate and report on important stories, but she never forgot that it was the work of the police that helped to keep the community safe.  

As she reflected on her experience, Sarah realized that if she hadn't pursued the lead that John had given her, the killer might have never been caught. It reaffirmed her belief that journalism can have a positive impact on society, and she was proud of the work she had done.  

Months later, Sarah received an email from John, thanking her for following up on the lead he had given her. He wrote that he was happy to have played a small part in helping to solve the case, and that he had newfound respect for the work of journalists.  

Sarah smiled as she read the email. She knew that John's information had been the key that had unlocked the case, and she was grateful for his help.  

She responded to the email, thanking him for his help and assuring him that his role in the investigation had not gone unnoticed. As she hit send, Sarah felt a sense of satisfaction, knowing that she had helped to bring justice to the victim's family and closure to the community.
